JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Up to 42 fighters including 29 militants were confirmed dead as clash broke out between Afghan security forces and the Taliban in eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, a provincial government spokesman said Tuesday.
The clashes, according to Attaullah Khogiani, broke out late Monday night and lasted for several hours during which 29 insurgents were killed and several others sustained injuries.
A total of 13 pro-government militias were also killed in the fighting, the spokesman said.
Taliban outfit has yet to make comment on the clashes.
