GABORONE, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Botswana has issued a travel advisory warning to its citizens following xenophobia attacks in neighbouring South Africa.

The country's Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation on Wednesday advised all Botswanans traveling to South Africa to exercise extreme caution because of the violent unrests in multiple locations there.

The ministry said in a statement that unrests occured in Pretoria's Central Business District (CBD), Johannesburg's CBD, Hillbrow area and its southern suburbs of Jeppestown and Malvern, among other places.

The ministry warned that those who currently live in South Africa also need to be vigilant.

South Africa erupted into a frenzy of violence this week, which was allegedly triggered by xenophobia as some South Africans claimed foreign nationals now have control over the country's economy.
