TEHRAN, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Navy Commander Hossein Khanzadi called for withdrawal of non-regional military forces from the Gulf, Tasnim news agency reported on Thursday.
"The enemies must leave the region as soon as possible, otherwise, they will face a humiliating exit," Khanzadi was quoted as saying by Tasnim.
He made the remarks at the closing ceremony of competitions of the International Army Games 2019, held on Iran's southern island of Kish, on Wednesday evening.
Khanzadi also said that regional waters are no longer the scene of "loitering and hypocritical showoff" for the United States, Britain and Israel.
His comments came after Washington announced last month that it plans to create a maritime military coalition in the Gulf to secure the transportation of oil tankers.
Iran has stressed that Tehran is responsible for the security of transportation in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz and has called for the cooperation of littoral states to this end.
