BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Sixteen teams made their ways to the 2020 AFC U23 Championship in Thailand after the last qualifying round ended on Tuesday.
The 16 teams are comprised of 11 group winners, four best second-placed teams and hosts Thailand. They are:
Group winners - Group A: Qatar; Group B: Bahrain; Group C: Iraq; Group D: United Arabic Emirates; Group E: Jordan; Group F: Uzbekistan; Group G: Democratic People's Republic of Korea; Group H: South Korea; Group I: Japan; Group J: China; Group K: Vietnam
Four best second-placed teams: Australia, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia
Hosts: Thailand
AFC General Secretary Dato' Windsor John congratulated the qualifying teams for the finals, saying that "it is encouraging to see the quality in these young players who are destined to be the future stars of football in Asia."
The AFC U23 Championship will be held in Thailand from January 8-26, 2020. The top three teams in the finals will qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in July and the fourth-placed will advance if Japan emerge as one of them.
