ASUNCION, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Argentine manager Eduardo Berizzo has reached a deal to take charge of Paraguay's national team, the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) said on Monday.
The 49-year-old replaces Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio, who left by mutual consent last week after just five months in the role.
"Negotiations with Eduardo Berizzo Magnolo have been successful... (and) he becomes the Albirroja's new coach," the APF said in a statement.
It added that Berizzo would be officially presented to the media at a news conference in Asuncion on Friday.
Berizzo's eight-year managerial career has included spells in charge of Spanish clubs Celta Vigo, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao. He was sacked from the latter in December after winning just two of 15 matches across all competitions.
His first major competition for Paraguay will be the Copa America, to be played in Brazil from June 14 to July 7.
Paraguay have been drawn in Group B for the continental tournament alongside Argentina, Colombia and Qatar.
