MADRID, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Valencia claimed their first home win of the season as they defeated Swiss side Young Boys 3-1 in the Mestalla Stadium on Wednesday night.

Santi Mina scored twice for the Spanish side with Carlos Soler scoring the third goal of the night to ensure that Valencia's Champions League future still lies very much in their hands.

The Spanish side went into the game struggling to score goals; indeed they had hit the opposition net just 8 times in their 14 competitive games before Wednesday night.

The first meeting between Valencia and Young Boys had ended 1-1 in Switzerland a fortnight ago with the Swiss side showing they were tough opponents and it proved to be the case again in Mestalla.

Santi Mina scored his first goal of the season to ease nerves after just 14 minutes. Spain international Rodrigo Moreno collected the ball on the left and although the post kept Soler's effort out, Mina was on hand to score from close range.

A low diagonal shot from Roger Assale in the 37th minutes levelled the game for Young Boys, but any doubts Valencia may have had were cleared with Mina's second goal five minutes later as he got a decisive touch on Soler's cross from the right.

Soler rounded off the scoring in the second half and Valencia's task was mad easier when Sekou Sanogo was sent off for a bad challenge with 13 minutes remaining.

The result leaves Valencia with five points from their four group games to date with a visit to face Juventus and what looks like a decisive game at home against Manchester United. Enditem
