KABUL, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has met with visiting U.S. special envoy for Afghanistan's peace and reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, on ways of reaching a lasting peace in the country, Presidential Palace said on Monday.
They exchanged views on Sunday at the Afghan Presidential Palace on holding an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace talks, and how to reach an inclusive peace in the country, the palace said in a statement. The meeting was attended by high-ranking Afghan government officials.
"Peace is a holy process and in this way, the government and people of America cooperate with the government and the people of Afghanistan," said Khalilzad.
The U.S. diplomat, leading a delegation, arrived in Afghanistan after visiting Pakistan. He is expected to visit United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Saudi Arabia in a latest effort to bring about peace and accelerate Afghan reconciliation process.
