KIGALI, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda on Friday joined the rest of the world to mark World Teachers' Day with a call on promoting and achieving quality education for all young people in both public and private schools.

The celebrations was held countrywide and the main celebration took place in Eastern Province's Rwamagana District, which is the best performer in education services delivery, according to the 2017 Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) Citizen Report Card, an annual publication on the satisfaction of public services.

Efforts must be made to ensure the quality of the education students receive, said Eugene Mutimura, Rwandan minister of education.

"Quality education is needed to enable Rwandan learners to compete in a highly increasingly knowledge-based and technologically driven global economy," he said.

The Rwandan government in the celebrations awarded best performing teachers at the national level, provincial level, district level, sector level, and school level respectively, with laptops, TV screens and motorcycles among others.
