TOKYO, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday, with the Nikkei index snapping an eight-day winning streak, as investors opted to lock in gains made recently.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 237.05 points, or 0.99 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 23,796.74.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 21.56 points, or 1.18 percent, to finish at 1,800.11.
Oil and coal product, nonferrous metal and electric appliance-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
