KAMPALA, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre on Monday named his final 24-man squad for a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Tanzania.
The team embarked on training on Saturday before six players were dropped on Monday. Desabre's team will host the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in a Group L match of the qualifiers on Sept. 8 at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
"It will be good to win the game and make sure we make it easier to qualify," said the Frenchman who was appointed last December.
"We must score as many goals to silence Tanzania at Namboole. We are hungry to go back to AFCON after qualifying last year," striker Emmanuel Arnold Okwi said after training on Monday.
Okwi who plays for Tanzania Premier League champions Simba SC admitted that although it will be a tough game, they are determined to take maximum points.
"I know Tanzania will be hungry to come and win because a defeat will put them in a terrible situation," added the striker.
Uganda lead Group L with three points after stopping Cape Verde 1-0 last year, while Lesotho and Tanzania are joint second after they drew 1-1 in their opening game. The 2019 AFCON will be held in Cameroon in August.
Uganda broke a 39-year jinx by qualifying for the 2017 AFCON that took place in Gabon.
