TEHRAN, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Iran's military advisors will maintain their presence in Syria, Abolqassem Alinejad, Iran's military and defense attache to Damascus, said Tuesday.
"The continuation of presence of Iranian (military) advisors in Syria was one of the points of the defense and technical agreement between Tehran and Damascus" recently reached, Alinejad was quoted as saying by Press TV.
Iran and Syria signed an agreement on defense and technical cooperation during a visit on Sunday by the Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami to Syria.
The agreement was signed in line with the two countries' will to improve cooperation, Alinejad said, adding that the expansion of defense cooperation between Iran and Syria would help promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
The accord also stressed the importance of support for Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty, he said.
According to the agreement, Iran will help Syria in clearing mine fields in different parts of the Arab state, he added.
Iran also vowed to help Syria reconstruct the military factories that were damaged in Syria's seven-year war and rebuild its infrastructure, Alinejad added.
