BANGKOK, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's leading hospitals are keeping medical services readied around-the-clock for Chinese tourists throughout this Southeast Asian country.

Dr. Poramaporn Prasarttong-osoth, Chief Operating Officer of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS) PLC, told Xinhua at the BDMS Annual Academic Meeting on Thursday that BDMS hospitals readily provide medical facilities and services to Chinese visitors in major tourist destinations such as Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Bangkok.

BDMS hospitals have been advanced in medical technology and services for all patients, both Thai and foreign, including those from China and ASEAN countries, according to Dr. Poramaporn, daughter of Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-osoth, founder of BDMS.

"We do not only provide medical services for Chinese visitors to Thailand but keep Chinese-speaking interpreters readily available to help with the communication between the patient and the doctor," Dr. Poramaporn told Xinhua.

Most Chinese patients to BDMS hospitals were reported to have minor illnesses such as headaches, high fevers, diarrhea while a relatively small number of others might be admitted for injuries caused by accidents, she said.

BDMS is currently opening the annual academic meeting to disseminate advancements in medical knowledge among doctors and medical personnel with specific lectures provided by noted Thai and foreign medical professionals.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the opening ceremony for the four-day academic meeting at a Bangkok hotel on Tuesday.

In addition to dozens of private hospitals in Thailand, BDMS has opened a few affiliate hospitals in Cambodia where medical personnel may under training courses and be given opportunities to advance their medical studies overseas.

She said the medical know-how and development acquired by BDMS will be disseminated to medical professionals in Thailand's neighboring countries, especially Cambodia and Myanmar.
