NEW DELHI, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least two pilgrims have been killed after being run over by a speeding vehicle in the western Indian state of Rajasthan Thursday, police said.
The accident occurred in the state's Dholpur district.
"The two were on a pilgrimage. They were run over by a speeding vehicle this morning and declared brought dead by a hospital where they had been rushed to," a police official said.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, he said.
"Efforts are on to identify the vehicle as the driver sped away after the accident. The driver has been booked for rash and negligent driving," the official added.
Road accidents occur in India mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
