SAN FRANCISCO, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. watchdog groups Friday criticized U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon for selling racist products advocating White Supremacy and anti-Semitism on its online platform.
The pair of groups, Action Center on Race & the Economy and the Partnership for Working Families, alleged in a report that they found toys with propaganda symbols, books and other products aimed at children that normalize racist beliefs.
"Amazon enables the celebration of ideologies that promote hate and violence by allowing the sale of hate symbols and imagery on its site, including Confederate and anti-Black imagery, Nazi and fascist imagery," they said.
They accused Amazon of providing a platform for openly racist writers, musicians, and activists, including some who advocate for violence against Black people, Muslims and Jewish people.
Amazon has failed to enforce its policy against "products that promote or glorify hatred, violence, racial, sexual or religious intolerance or promote organizations with such views," and took no action in removing items containing inappropriate contents, said the two watchdogs.
They urged Amazon to take a public stand against hate and violence, and take action to ensure that it is not profiting from hate or enabling others to profit from hate.
A spokesperson for Amazon said in a statement to media that third-party sellers who don't follow the company's guidelines will be subject to "swift action including potential removal of their account."
