MAIMANA, Afghanistan, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have reopened a key road linking northern Faryab's provincial capital Maimana to the neighboring Jawzjan province after inflicting casualties to the Taliban fighters, an army spokesman in the northern region Mohammad Hanif Rezai said Saturday.
"The security forces after launching operations and killing four insurgents and injuring 12 others were able to reopen the road linking Maimana to Jawzjan province on Friday," Rezai told Xinhua.
"The road is now open for traffic and both passengers and drivers can easily use the road to travel between Faryab's capital Maimana and Jawzjan capital Shiberghan free of fear," the official asserted.
Taliban militants who killed over a dozen security personnel on the road last week are yet to make comment.
Rezai also said that more security checkpoints would be established on Maimana-Jawzjan road to ensure security there.?
