BANGKOK, May 16 (Xinhua) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand(TAT) said on Wednesday during a press conference that an Asia music festival will be held on August 18 to August 19 in southern Thai island of Koh Samui in a bid to attract more tourists.
The music festival, coorganized by TAT, Singaporean company IMC Live Group and Koh Samui Municipality, will showcase music acts of different genres and tongues from all across Asia over the weekend.
The event will also showcase Thailand's flavorful music scene.
The festival is a non-ticketed event and festival-goers will be treated to a weekend of solid music performances and enjoy food and beverage options in the fesitival market, the tourism authority said.
Worawit Techasupakura, Secretary to the Thai Minister Of Tourism and Sports, said in the press conference that holding such an event in Koh Samui is consistent with the government's policy to promote tourism in second-tier cities and thus increase local people's income.
