TOKYO, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Friday morning as investors were encouraged by U.S. shares' overnight gains and solid earnings reports from domestic bellwethers a day earlier.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 202.58 points, or 0.9 percent, from Thursday to 22,699.76
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 11.53 points, or 0.65 percent, to 1,789.15.
Precision instrument, electric appliances and machinery-oriented issues gained the most by the morning break.
