WASHINGTON, May 4 (Xinhua) -- The New York Knicks have agreed to a deal with David Fizdale for him to become their next coach, according to local media on Friday.
Fizdale coached the Memphis Grizzlies into the Western Conference playoffs in 2016-17 season, but he was fired by the Grizzlies on Nov. 27 after a slow start to this season.
New York have also interviewed former Cleveland Cavaliers coach David Blatt, former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer and former Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson for the coaching post, but it's said Fizdale was New York's primary target from the start of the search process.
It's reported that New York will hold a news conference to present Fizdale as new coach to media early next week.
The Knicks dismissed their coach Jeff Hornacek on Apr. 12, one day after the regular season ended. During two seasons with New York, Hornacek posted a record of 60-104 as injuries made it hard for the team to build consistency. The Knicks have missed the playoffs for five straight seasons.
