GENEVA, March 2 (Xinhua) -- The UN Human Rights Council on Friday morning decided to hold an urgent debate on the situation in Syria's Eastern Ghouta, which is proposed to be held later the day.
The request to hold the debate was received on Thursday, and the Council then adopted the proposal Friday morning by a vote of 25 in favour, 4 against, with 8 abstentions.
During the discussion China voiced concern about the suffering of the Syrian people, stressing that the international community should make common efforts to implement Security Council resolution 2401.
