TRIPOLI, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed on Monday when mortar shells of unknown source landed on their home in the southern Libyan city of Sabha, a security official said.

"Random mortar shells of unknown source landed on a house in the city of Sabha at Monday dawn, killing two people," Yahya Shwayel, Head of Investigation and Arrest Unit of Sabha Security Department, told Xinhua.

"The house that was hit by shells is located near a military headquarters of Sabha Military Zone," Shwayel said.

Sabha Military Zone is affiliates to the eastern-based army led by General Khalifa Haftar.

Shwayel denied reports of local media about five people of Sudanese nationality killed by mortar shells.

The city of Sabha, some 800 km southwest of the Libyan capital Tripoli, witnesses an unprecedented insecurity, with high level of kidnappings by armed groups and tribal clashes.

Libya has been suffering chaos and unrest following the 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Gaddafi's regime. Enditem
