KAMPALA, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- Uganda and Mauritania have been nominated as role models on club licensing by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Eng. Moses Hassim Magogo, the President of the Uganda FA made the announcement at Serena Hotel in Kampala on Thursday.

"We are glad that we are among the best in the continent in the modern club licensing system that was started by the Federation of International Football Associations," added Magogo.

Federations across Africa started implementing the club licensing system way back in 2015 supervised under the Organizing Committee for Management of CAF Club Licensing System.

FIFA's Club Licensing System is based on five key criteria: sporting, personnel and administrative, financial, infrastructure and legal. These criteria aim to safeguard the credibility and integrity of club competitions while improving the level of professionalism within the football family and promoting transparency in the finances, ownership and control of clubs.

Magogo said because of the good organization and being quick to implement systems requested by CAF and FIFA, football is developing at a faster rate in Uganda. "We have managed to bring several sponsors on board with over 17 million U.S dollars invested in football last year," he added.

He also welcomed the new company Sports Broadcasting Limited who has acquired major commercial and media rights of Uganda Premier League (UPL), FUFA Big League and the FUFA Uganda Cup. The company signed a four-year term deal valued at 3 million U.S dollars from 1st June 2018 to 31st July 2022.

The Uganda FA President said using the lessons of the previous failed attempts to professionalize club football, FUFA has constructed solid governance for club football and enforced the club licensing.

"Combined with the education of the technical and administrative human resource, professionalism is being entrenched at all levels," added Magogo.
