YANGON, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Some casualties occurred due to a landslide in Hpakant mining region in Myanmar's Kachin state on Friday night, an official from Lone-Khin police department told Xinhua on Saturday.
The landslide occurred due to the collapse of spoil tip near Lone-Khin jade mining area at 10:50 p.m. local time on Friday.
"The accident is under investigation by the authorities and no further details about casualties are reported yet," he added.
Rescue operations are under way as some mining company staff and trucks were buried under the rubble, a rescue worker told Xinhua.
