Sudan, UNDP sign action plan worth over 417 bln USD

KHARTOUM, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Sudan and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have signed Thursday a document on a four-year country program action plan worth 417 billion U.S. dollars.

The document represents a roadmap for implementing the program and projects funded by the UNDP for 2018-2021.

Sudanese Minister for International Cooperation Idris Suleiman signed the document for the government while the UNDP was represented by the Resident Country Humanitarian Coordinator Marta Ruedas.

In his speech to the signing ceremony, Suleiman commended the Sudan-UN cooperation.

"The document signed today focuses on national priorities to achieve sustainable development goals and the shift from humanitarian assistance to development and finding job opportunities for Sudanese citizens," he said.

"We hope the document will be implemented with real partnership, high coordination and harmonization between national and the UN agenda," Suleiman added.

For her part, Ruedas said the document "represents a chance for achieving sustainable goals in Sudan and will contribute to realizing national priorities in accordance with Sudan's national development plan."

She added that the document supports economic and social development, and the ability to counter the climate change and to provide social services.

The document covers good governance, rule of law, communities' stability, peace building, environment and natural resources development.
