CHICAGO, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) Motor Co., Ltd. is confident that with commitment to quality, it can stand all technological challenges and tests in entering the U.S. market.
The Chinese automaker is now busy studying North America market and consumers, in efforts to determine products and brands to be sold and the operation mode in North America.
"Quality is the foundation for GAC Motor to enter North American market. Due to our commitment to quality, Trumpchi is now of quality equaling to that of internationally famous brands," GAC Motor senior management told Xinhua in an interview.
Early this year, the Chinese automaker headquartered in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, announced at the North America International Auto Show in Detroit that it will begin selling vehicles in the United States at the end of 2019.
If the self-imposed deadline is met, the automaker will become the first Chinese company ever to sell the first Chinese-branded vehicles in the U.S..
For the purpose, GAC Motor has accelerated the pace of entering North America market: its R&D center in the Silicon Valley in California has gone into operation in April 2017, and is responsible for advanced technology R&D, design ideas, and product planning.
Preparations for the Detroit R&D Center and the Los Angles Prospective Design Center are also under way. The Detroit center will focus on study of fuel consumption, emission, and safety regulations.
GAC Motor has tied strategic cooperation relationship with world's top 10 auto parts suppliers, creating a supply chain system of its own.
To keep abreast of the international auto market, GAC Motor has listed developing new energy car as one of its top priorities, and has so far built two technological routes of plug hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and pure electric vehicle (EV). Since 2017, it has sold on market three new energy vehicle models: GA3S PHEV, GS4 PHEV and GE3.
In the next five years, the Chinese automaker plans to put on market over seven new energy vehicle models; and in the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), it will further develop 20-30 new models to bring the proportion of new energy vehicles in its one-million-unit production projected for 2020 up to 10 percent.
Market demand for automobiles is growing rational, and more and more consumers are in pursuit of quality and function when buying a car. "With this in mind, GAC Motor never compromises its quality in market competition. Everything, say agenda, sales, and cost, must give way to quality," GAC Motor senior management told Xinhua.
